A few weeks ago, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick took to Instagram to offered up a “free and easy guitar lesson whilst we languish in self-quarantine limbo.” He wrote, “For over forty years at least once a month other bands or musicians, some well known, most are not, (YET) will treat me with their version of how they’ve learned the song ‘Surrender’ which is flattering, but 9 times outta 10, it sounds kinda funny to me, so I usually either try to correct their rendition or I’ll suggest, you wanna know how I play ‘Surrender’? It’s simple but….thanks it’s great that you know it and you’ve learned it, maybe not wrong but let’s try my simpler way of playing.
